OnePlus confirmed it won’t launch a new Open foldable in 2025.
The company released its first foldable smartphone, the OnePlus Open, in 2023 The handset was great and showcased what the Galaxy Z Fold 5 could have been. While OnePlus didn’t reveal a new foldable in 2024, we hoped we’d see one this year; however, it looks like that won’t be the case.
OnePlus Open product manager, Vale Gu, published an explanation to the OnePlus Community page, writing that OnePlus parent company Oppo will take “the lead in the foldable segment” but that OnePlus “remain[s] committed to incorporating these breakthroughs into our future products.”
Here’s what Gu said:
“At OnePlus, our core strength and passion lie in setting new benchmarks and challenging the status quo across all product categories. With that in mind, we’ve carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices, and we have made the decision not to release a foldable this year.
“While this may come as a surprise, we believe this is the right approach for us at this time. As OPPO takes the lead in the foldable segment with the Find N5, we’re committed to developing products that will redefine multiple categories and bring you experiences that are as innovative and exciting as ever, all while aligning closely with our Never Settle mantra.
“That said, our decision to pause on foldable for this generation does not signify a departure from the category. OPPO’s Find N5 demonstrates remarkable advancements in foldable technology, including the use of cutting-edge new materials and more sophisticated engineering. We remain committed to incorporating these breakthroughs into our future products.
“This is not a step back, it’s a recalibration. Our commitment to innovation is stronger than ever, and we’re excited to bring you fresh, unique experiences that truly Never Settle.”

If you own a OnePlus Open, nothing changes; you’ll get regular software updates and security patches.
This is disappointing. I really want to try out the Oppo Find N5 as it’s incredibly thin. The phone won’t launch in Canada, so I was looking forward to trying out the global variant that would come to Canada — the speculated OnePlus Open 2.
