Scott Parked watched on as Joelinton and Yoane Wissa put Newcastle United 2-0 inside the first seven minutes.

The Burnley boss admitting: “We gave ourselves a mountain to climb, the two goals were really sloppy and silly goals to concede. We just didn’t get started and that makes it really difficult to get a result in the Premier League, when you are two down so early on.”

To their credit, Burnley didn’t lie down, they instead showed great spirit.

Laurent giving them a lifeline when volleying home on 23 minutes.

Scott Parker saying: “The mentality, desire and adversity we showed to going down 2-0 early on, is what pleased me, I am just so frustrated because there were so many positives to take despite the defeat. The second half was full of desire, commitment and quality…I couldn’t have asked much more of the lads. In adversity and hardship we stood up, we didn’t hide and we didn’t disappear, we stood up to the challenge and took the game to a very good Newcastle side.”

Bruno Guimaraes scored late on to let the travelling United fans enjoy the final few minutes and whilst a two goal margin was probably a little harsh, Newcastle still deserved the win overall.

After a very open 90 minutes that ended in defeat, Scott Park summing up his feelings: “I am weak in my words because we’ve lost a game despite so many positives. It goes down as a 3-1 loss on paper but it doesn’t feel like that was a fair reflection.”

Despite the loss, Burnley are still only two wins away from safety, six points behind fourth bottom Forest who lost 2-0 at home to Everton on Tuesday night.

Scott Parker declaring: “The fight goes on and we will keep nailing down where we need to improve, keep doing the good things we’re doing to keep going.”
