The postmortem, which was carried out at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, showed that he had been poisoned and died of a condition identified as acute hemorrhagic gastritis. The latter involves bleeding in the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

When the owner of the pub, Nancy Njoki, was asked about the matter, she said that she was also devastated by the death since he was her loyal customer.

She also insisted that the drink that killed the young man did not come from her pub.

“Why would I want to kill him and yet he was a loyal customer, and whenever he missed for three days, I felt like calling him to find out where he was because he used to drink for the whole night,” she said. The jury is still out there on who may have wanted Maina dead, but the police have already started investigations into the death, which has shocked family, friends, and colleagues.
