The family of Constable Ramadhan Mattanka is still struggling to come to terms with his tragic death while on duty.

On Monday, October 13, he reported to work as usual, unaware of the calamity that awaited him. While manning Gate D of the Nairobi State House alongside colleagues, he was confronted by a man armed with a bow and arrows, later identified as 56-year-old Kinyuka Kimunyi.

Following the incident, the family of Mzee Hassan Dabie recalled their final moments with Mattanka, who was his only child.

The grieving father explained that they had held a prayer session together before wishing him well as he left for work, only for tragedy to strike later that day, robbing them of their son.

Authorities are investigating whether there was any prior connection between Mattanka and the attacker, or with other officers on duty, given the sensitive nature of the location.

Surveillance footage showed Mattanka collapsing in pain as colleagues rushed to assist, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The family, in line with Islamic traditions, had intended to lay him to rest before sunset on Monday. However, police requested a postponement to facilitate a post-mortem examination scheduled for the following day.

Surveillance footage captured Kimunyi approaching Gate D and engaging Constable Mattanka in a lengthy conversation before abruptly launching the assault while other officers were distracted by a vehicle inspection.

Mattanka collapsed to the ground in agony and, despite being rushed to hospital, succumbed to his injuries.
