On Sunday, January 19, Kenya Power said some areas in Nandi, Nyeri and Uasin Gishu counties will experience power interruption.

According to Kenya Power, the affected areas will be without electricity for at least nine hours beginning 8am.

“Good Evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (20th January, 2024). We regret any inconvenience that may be caused during the operations,” Kenya Power said.1. Is Kenya Power planning to hire new staff?The announcement of scheduled maintenance comes weeks after the power company disclosed it is facing a staff shortage.

The utility company’s 2024 annual report revealed 2,234 employees left through natural attrition over the past five years.

The electricity distributor estimated that 488 employees will retire within the next two years.

Kenya Power said it planned to address the 2,981-employee shortfall within three years. During the review period, the company employed 10,437 people.

Despite the staffing challenges, the company reported a post-tax profit of KSh 30.08 billion for the year ending June 30, 2024.

Revenue rose 21% to KSh 231.1 billion, driven by higher demand and the introduction of a more affordable tariff in April 2023.
