Koodo parent company Telus confirmed to MobileSyrup that the company was raising prices by $3 to $5 in February.

“This month, some Koodo customers on select legacy bring-your-own-device (BYOD) rate plans will see an increase ranging between $3 to $5 in their billing cycle,” said Telus spokesperson Lena Chen.

Chen also said that impacted customers can “take advantage of any of our in-market rate plans,” and pointed to benefits of Koodo’s current plans, like the choice of one free perk or the provider’s 4G LTE network.

However, impacted customers aren’t happy about the increase. Several took to Reddit to complain about the increase, with some threatening they would switch providers.

Another complaint from customers on Reddit was that Koodo didn’t provide proper notice.

Update Feb. 14th at 2:37pm ET: Chen told MobileSyrup in a follow-up email that Koodo notified impacted customers through bill messaging and push notifications sent from the provider’s self-serve portal.

While it can be frustrating, Canadian wireless providers usually slip price increase notices into bills — it can often be found on the last page in small font, making it easy to miss unless people go out of their way to download a PDF of the bill and read it thoroughly.

The Wireless Code requires carriers provide at least 30 days’ notice of changes to contract terms. Customers who are unable to resolve an issue with their carrier can file a complaint with the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-Television Services (CCTS).

Koodo last raised prices for customers in October 2024. Notably, Koodo also blocked some customers from changing plans during that price hike, preventing some people from avoiding the price increase. Koodo also raised prices in 2023.

The Telus flanker brand has also been making changes to its in-market plans, adjusting prices and data buckets. The company recently bundled its ongoing data bonuses directly into its plans and knocked prices down by $1/mo after increasing them by $5/mo last month.
