My big break within the media industry came as an 18-year-old in 1990 when I started a weekend job at Hayters Sports Agency before becoming a permanent member of staff in 1996. During my time at Hayters, I count working closely alongside Match of the Day’s famous former stats man Albert Sewell on the production of the 1997-98 News of the World football annual as one of my top highlights. I still have my signed copy from the great man on my desk to this day.
I moved to Sky Sports in 1998 as a football statistician, travelling around the UK and Europe working alongside commentators Martin Tyler, Alan Parry, Rob Hawthorne and Ian Crocker on Sky’s Premiership, EFL, Scottish and European match coverage. What was a fairly stressful role within live TV also taught me so much about the inner workings of the game.
I moved up to Yorkshire to start work with TEAMtalk in late 2001 and have never looked back since, having now almost spent a quarter of a century working on different roles within the site.
Born in Kent, I’ve been a lifelong Tottenham fan (sufferer) and have many a story to tell in what’s been an incredible journey within the media industry to date – and long may it continue.
